Corsica Cycle Tour

This is Sardinia and Corsica in late October 2005. The weather was mostly hot and sunny.

Templet of Malchittu - a neolithic ruin in the hills near Arzachena in northern Sardinia.

Bonifacio on the south coast of Corsica. An hour by ferry from St Theresa in Sardinia.

We took the ferry from Santa Teresa Gallura to Bonifacio in Corsica. The marina in Bonifacio has some luxury boats.

Pigs run wild by the roadside scrumping on sweet chestnuts. There are some wild boar, but these pigs were domesticated.

Gorge de la Restonica. Looking down from the higher lake to the lower lake.
After cycling up to 1400m the road ends and you ascend on foot to reach these lakes.

Gorge de la Restonica - the highest lake.

In the mountains above the village of St Pietro we were joined by a lost dog, who called over two of his mates. We escorted them back to the village and reunited them with their grateful owner.

Gorge de la Spelunca. Pink granite gorge on the descent from Col de Verghio.

Gorge de la Spelunca.

Porto on the west coast. On climbing out of here the freewheel on my bike unthreaded itself and I lost half of the tiny ball bearings, but managed to find enough to continue with the tour.

Chateau Fort. Eroded rock formations by the coast.

Les Calanques - very colourful at sunset.

Capu Rossu. The headland is crowned by the Tour de Turghiu, one of many Genoese towers.

Capu d Ortu

Sheltering under an eroded rock.

Sartene, site of long-running vendettas.

Bonifacio - inside the citadel.

Bonifacio Port from the high town.

Bonifacio - from the ferry back to Sardinia.

Coddu Vecchiu in Sardinia. A neolithic burial chamber.

Cookery competition at Olbia airport with lots of free food and drink.
